What are the dangers from drinking too much coffee – far too much???

I am contemplating a charity event that will involve drinking as much coffee as possible in 1 day (crazy i know but i’m really curious) ala Futurama style. Does anyone know if there are any dangers involverd with a task like this? Just a quick note – i genuinly had no idea of the ill effects of caffine and was seriously considering this. I was intending to see my GP first however. After most of the comments on here i don’t think i’ll bother. Thanks guys – its true that you learn something new every day.

caffeine affects your blood sugar levels…& to fight this…your pancreas will pump out insulin…not a good thing to do!! you might experience heart palpitations as well!!

  4. NotEckyBoy says:

that is a really silly idea as caffeine will affect the heart rate.

I trust you are not being serious about this.

You can overdose on caffeine. An acute overdose of caffeine, usually in excess of about 300 milligrams, dependent on body weight and level of caffeine tolerance, can result in a state of central nervous system over-stimulation called caffeine intoxication. The symptoms of caffeine intoxication may include restlessness, nervousness, excitement, insomnia, flushing of the face, increased urination, gastrointestinal disturbance, muscle twitching, a rambling flow of thought and speech, irritability, irregular or rapid heart beat, and psychomotor agitation.

I also read some time ago about a girl who developed a fever and began hyperventilating after drinking seven double espressos while working at a coffee place. So, I don’t recommend it!

well it will push the adrenaline level up to a high rate, so heart will be pounding like a dervish, and the come down from drinking too much coffee is really horrible.

It would affect the heart and kidneys/bladder for sure, I’m just not sure how much. It’s probably different for every person.

Seriuos heart problems with all the caffine and sugar, though id totally take the risk if time slowed down like that in futurama.

I realise that you interned it to be a charity event, but you can DIE from drinking/consuming too much caffeine – people have. The amount needed is really quite high, but well before the levels become toxic it will become really unpleasant.
(Very roughly the amount to kill you would relate to about 1 jarful in a day, so it’s really quite a lot, but that depends on your tolerance/how much you normally drink.)

I suggest that you read up on caffeine poisoning.

(The main danger from memory is to your heart)

Drinking too much coffee can give you yellow teeth, stomach aches, and if you’re really young, it can stunt your growth! I LOVE coffee, but I have to watch myself!

Well.. I guess drinking too much coffee will have an affect on your nervous system, as the caffeine in it is a stimulant. It will probably have an affect on your alertness as well. Caffeine is a drug, so I suppose an overdose can kill you. There is a recommended amount of caffeine for someone depending on their age. You take too much, it might have effects on your body. You take in no caffeine, I don’t think it has any effect on your body. I think that your body is used to a certain level of caffeine. So a massive change in caffeine levels will be certain to have a bad effect on your body.
